Brazil Has the First Newspaper Exclusively for the iPad.

Brasil247 launches a new business model for the editorial market

SAO PAULO, March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Brazil gets a glimpse of its first media interface developed specially for the iPad: Brazil247 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). It is a new free medium providing content that is open, shareable and editable in a creative, collaborative and light-hearted approach.

The new newspaper offers information and entertainment with interaction, plurality, agility and democracy (the iPad 's initials): Interactivity - Its content is 100% open, to be shared, Plurality - A collaborative work model, open to readers (journalists or otherwise) to write, Agility - At least two daily editions, and Democracy - Columnists from every walk of life.

With investments of more than US$ 2 million in one year, Brazil247 was designed to meet the new readership demand of the Brazilian market, which already has 200 thousand tablet users, with the potential to grow to more than 1 million this year. The project is from Editora247, commandeered by experienced journalists and directed by Leonardo Attuch and Joaquim Castanheira, esteemed professionals in Brazilian journalism.

The idea for the newspaper arose from the journalist's own experiences in reading international publications and using tablets. "The American newspaper Daily gave us the confidence that we were on the right track," says Leonardo Attuch, emphasizing that these devices finally brought portability to the reader and should accelerate the migration from paper to digital media. "Brasil247 is not an adaptation of a printed edition. It was created to specifically take advantage of the technological resources available on the iPad platform, like videos, photo galleries and animation," says Joaquim Castanheira.

The publication antedates technological, cultural, societal and environmental trends by being an open, free, collaborative, freely accessible newspaper that is controlled by journalists and has no printed editions. In addition to the traditional sections, the newspaper has editorials in Personal Finances, Agribusiness, Media & Technology, Games & Applications, Ecology and Photography. On weekends, the readers are offered the Oasis magazine, focused on quality of life, style and traveling. The new publication will begin publicity campaigns from companies like Caoa/Hyundai, Tecnisa and SEB - Sistema Educacional Brasil.

Gold ATM atm gives gold.

DUBAI An ATM that spits out pure gold nuggets and coins has become such a hit among shoppers that one vendor has had to organise

twice-a-week replenishment.

Simon Khoury, chief operating officer of the Galeries Lafayette at Dubai Mall, said sales of their gold-to-go

machine have beaten expectations, though he declined to give figures.

The golden box coughing up 99.9 per cent gold has become a novel

curiosity to most mall-goers, but there are some who find it no different from buying a can of soda. Georgina Hardman, from the UK, said:

"It's a good idea and my husband would have bought a piece, except that he was short on cash. And it does not accept credit cards."

The machine works just like an ATM-cum-vending machine: you put money inside, get your purchase in a package and off you go - it takes all of 20

seconds.

What's the guarantee of authenticity of the gold sold? Items are only made with 24-carat gold supplied by a Swiss banker.

10-day return policy

The items, which come in a sealed box, can be returned within 10 days after purchase.

"We just made gold

purchases more accessible," said Khoury. "Our clients understood this idea very well and most of them make up their mind in a few

seconds."

Currently, payment is only in dirhams and Khoury said payment by credit or debit card will be sorted in a few days. "We

have no big demand from people paying in dollars or other currencies. We're hoping to finalise a deal in 10 days to allow us to take credit card

payments for gold-to-go purchases," he said.

The smallest nugget weighs 2.5 grams and cost Dh565 on Tuesday (Dh470 on February 11, the

launch date) while the biggest sold so far was a one-ounce coin for Dh5,540 on the same day.

Prices change and are updated via the internet

every 10 minutes. Khoury said all sales are monitored by security cameras. "There are several cameras inside and outside the machine."

A customer facing trouble with the machine can push an emergency button for help.

There are about 50 such machines around the world,

including one each at the entrance of Burj Khalifa and the At The Top viewing platform on the 124th floor. Another gold-to-go is installed at the

Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

K3 Launches New SaaS Solution to Quench Thirst for Pay as You Use ERP.

(PRWeb UK) February 18, 2011

The company's SYSPRO BusinessLive ERP offering is provided as Software as a Solution (SaaS), enabling customers to take advantage of a powerful and flexible computer system without the need for up-front investment or on-site installation and maintenance. Customers will find that the system pays for itself through efficiency gains as they use it.

Research by the technology analyst firm, Aberdeen Group found that 39% of respondents to a recent survey would consider deploying SaaS ERP -- an increase of 70% on the previous year.1 Users recognise that such cloud based systems provide huge benefits by giving them the ability to use state of the art technology that is hosted and maintained by the software company. They have no need to worry about updates and data security as this is part of the service.

SYSPRO BusinessLive also allows scaleability for growth, flexibility to adapt to business change and easy deployment for new users and sites. The system is inherently secure due to K3's mirrored state of the art hosting systems and it provides business continuity and disaster recovery features. If a company needs to relocate to a temporary site or staff need to work from home, the system remains accessible at all times.

Aberdeen finds that the "cloud offering includes the full functionality of the SYSPRO ERP application; there is no difference in the software between the on-premise version and SYSPRO BusinessLive."2 The secure web-based application enables users to access their ERP system on demand over the Internet or through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

"SYSPRO BusinessLive gives companies the opportunity to implement advanced software without the associated costs of on-site installations. When companies are working hard to move forward, but still feeling the effect of the recession, it means that they can take advantage of powerful technology without impacting their finances," said Andy Latham Managing Director, K3 Business Technology Group.

Microsoft Delivers Online Encrypted E-mail Using Direct Project Security Protocols.

Interoperable e-mail messaging service launched with new version of Microsoft HealthVault enables physicians to share patient health information electronically.

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- During a Health & Human Services event in D.C. today, Microsoft Corp. announced new encrypted e-mail functionality for Microsoft HealthVault, which allows clinical partner solutions to send messages to patients based on security protocols set forth by the Office of the National Coordinator's (ONC's) Direct Project. Through this offering, every HealthVault record will be able to automatically accept mails directly from healthcare providers. Initial partners include MedPlus and VisionShare Inc., which have integrated the new service with their solutions to help clinical users secure messages they send to patients. The three companies are pioneering members of the Direct Project and will demonstrate the capabilities of their solutions in the Interoperability Showcase at the 2011 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibit (HIMSS 2011) as part of the Office of the National Coordinator's exhibit.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)

"The initial goal of the Direct Project is to specify a simple, secure, scalable, standards-based way for participants to send authenticated, encrypted health information directly to known, trusted recipients over the Internet," said Wes Rishel, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner. "It is exciting to see early, real-world examples of applications based on the Direct Project's security protocols emerging through the efforts of the private sector. Through public-private partnerships such as these we are starting to see the sharing of critical information across the health system."

Through this functionality, an encrypted copy of an individual's clinical information can be electronically transmitted to a patient's new e-mail address created within Microsoft HealthVault, where it is automatically saved to the patient's HealthVault account as part of their longitudinal personal health record. The service may be used to read or download the information. Direct Project messaging with security-enhanced technologies enables clinical solution providers to meet Phase One Meaningful Use requirements for the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program by providing patients with their health information, as well as proposed Phase Two requirements, which call for secure online patient messaging.

"Through the Direct Project, and our work with Microsoft HealthVault, Quest Diagnostics Care360(TM) EHR is providing the physician community with an effective way to transmit comprehensive clinical information directly to patients and to realize the financial incentives of achieving meaningful use," said Richard A. Mahoney, Quest Diagnostics vice president of Healthcare Information Solutions and president of its MedPlus healthcare information technology subsidiary. "With Care360 EHR, physicians can securely and easily collaborate and share information with the goal of improving patient care."

ONC's Direct Project says it benefits providers and patients by improving the direct transport of structured and unstructured health information, making it secure, fast, inexpensive, and, for some applications, interoperable. Using Direct Project addresses, a care provider can send and receive important clinical information, connecting to other stakeholders across the country.

"This service and our early partnerships are accelerating the ability for patients to become active participants in managing their health," said Sean Nolan, distinguished engineer and chief architect, Microsoft Health Solutions Group. "As one of the first examples of the Direct Project security protocols being utilized to meet Meaningful Use requirements, this interoperability is a step on the road map to the goal of expanding secure online interactions between physicians and patients."

Microsoft is also working with VisionShare, a leader in e-health connectivity, to advance the goals of the Direct Project. Both companies are participating in a Direct Project Pilot Implementation to demonstrate the feasibility of using the Direct Project communication protocols, security model and addressing mechanism to submit immunization data from providers into a state immunization information system with security-enhanced technologies. Information on the pilot, which began sending data on Jan. 12, will be available after the completion of the program.

Demonstrations of Microsoft HealthVault encrypted e-mail can be seen in scenarios presented by MedPlus and VisionShare at the Interoperability Showcase during HIMSS 2011 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 20-24.
