Eletropaulo tests PLC.

Brazil, Aug 1, 2003 (Gazeta Mercantil/SABI via COMTEX)

The Brazilian power distribution company AES Eletropaulo is testing the electric Internet project, named PLC (powerline communication) or broadband over powerline, and completes a feasibility study to know what kind of advantages the technology can bring. The Spanish DS2, through its subsidiary EBA, is the technology partner of Eletropaulo. The company is studying a way to reduce the high cost of the system, since the whole equipment is imported. As an example, a ten-floor building would demand the set up of a central modem, estimated in between US$1,800mil and US$2,000, besides equipment in each floor, for between US$320 and US$350 each.
