FED: Pensioners, low-income earners better off under scheme
Ordinary Australians will share in 30 billion dollars during the next five years to
help them deal with the increased cost of living under carbon emissions trading.
The government expects the cost of living to rise by 1.1 per cent when the scheme's
introduced in July 2010.
But pensioners .. carers and a lot of families will be compensated.
For example .. a single aged pensioner will face a four dollar per week increase in
household costs but will receive an extra seven dollars a week in their pension.
And a typical family with a combined income of 60 thousand dollars and two kids will
be 347 dollars per year better off .. according to the government's modelling.
Motorists will also be protected from higher fuel costs by a cent for cent reduction
in the fuel tax for the first three years.
